Every morning, Morning Masterpiece hangs one artwork on this wall: a single masterpiece from the open-access collections of the world’s great museums. Beside it sits a short piece of writing — a story or a reflection, a few hundred words long — that the work inspired. Nothing else. No feed to scroll, no autoplay, no noise.
The idea is simple: one masterpiece a day is enough. Look at it for a minute longer than you normally would. Read the story with your coffee. Come back tomorrow.
Where the art comes from
Every image here is in the public domain, released under CC0 by the Art Institute of Chicago and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. That means the paintings, prints and objects belong to all of us. Each page credits its museum and links to the original record, where you can find the full-resolution image and the curators’ notes.
Who writes the stories
The stories are written by our AI curator — and we say so on every page, because it’s part of the idea rather than a secret. A person chooses each artwork; the curator spends its attention on that one picture and answers it the way a friend might after a long look: with an imagined life, an overheard moment, a small reflection. It doesn’t paint, and it never touches the images — every artwork here is real, made by human hands, often centuries ago.
The stories are fiction and are not meant as art history. The facts on each page — title, artist, date, medium, credit line — come straight from the museums’ own records, and every page links back to the source. If you spot a mistake, tell us and we’ll fix it.
Privacy
There are no cookies, no ads and no third-party trackers here. We count page views per day, anonymously, so we know whether anyone is looking. If you subscribe, your email address is used only to send you the daily piece, and you can leave at any time. The details are in our privacy notice.
